DIOR BACKSTAGE – and interview with Armine Anders from DIOR South Africa

Dior Backstage is a refined contribution of all the tools, textures and tones that Dior’s pro-team of make-up artists, led by Peter Philips, creative and image director for Dior Makeup, use on fashion photography shoots and for catwalk shows.

For now, Dior Backstage is comprised of essentials.

The foundation is designed to offer a made-to-measure finish depending on the application method, which will determine the level of coverage. Use your fingertips for light coverage; the flat brush creates medium coverage; while a round foundation buffing brush will blend to a full coverage finish. To complement the foundation, there’s a contour palette which even the most Kardashian-averse will want to try, with four shades from lightest tan to a gorgeous island holiday bronze.

DIOR BACKSTAGE has recently launched in South Africa and I used the opportunity to Interview one of the leading dynamic woman, Armine Anders behind DIOR luxury house, South Africa to share more on what she’s thinks about the DIOR Backstage range and her personal favorite trends.

Armine Anders
  1. Please share more with us on your position at DIOR and why you are so driven and passionate about the Dior luxury house brand?

“I am the General Manager of Dior South Africa and have been with the brand for over 8 years.

I think the reason behind my passion is being here from the very beginning of this brand acquisition by African Sales Company, directly influencing strategic change and watching it grow from strength-to-strength over the years.

It has been my second child all along.

I was trusted enough to structure my own team from the start; I recruited people I had worked with and trusted implicitly in the past, and together we built a long-term vision for Dior in South Africa, which we have “lived and breathed” daily ever since.

The quote by Marc Anthony – “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life” is truly fitting to me.

I love what I do and I love the people I am doing it with, hence even on my worst work days, I feel fortunate to hold this role.”

2. Obviously you are very excited about the Backstage range, why?

“It’s exciting, because Dior has moved with the current trends and reinvented its classic makeup with the Backstage offering, for every woman who wants a professional result.

Peter Philips (Dior’s Creative Make-Up Director) describes this range as “basic, essential products that are at the root of Dior’s Backstage line”.

The Lip Glow balm, plumping Lip Maximizer or the fantastic Lash Maximizer to name a few, are the perfect answers to basic and quick essential beauty needs.

Neutral shades with professional, adjustable formulas, allow one to play with the color intensity and work across all different skin tones.

The elegant transparent packaging allows one to see product color at a glance – a huge benefit for makeup artists working in the hectic backstage atmosphere, as well as for women looking to find the right shade immediately.

The Backstage is a fun range to use and experiment with, but still keeping true to the luxurious Dior heritage.”

3. What do you think of Creative and Image Director of Dior Makeup, Peter Philips’s encyclopedic range of foundation shades?

“Thanks to its 40 universal shades the Face and Body Foundation suits absolutely every skin tone.

With its fluid, second skin texture, this buildable foundation provides made-to-measure intensity. Its waterproof formula is heat and humidity resistant and can survive the effervescent and hectic conditions both backstage and on the runway – which is why we call it “Runway Proof”. This foundation, with its natural and luminous finish, is also an indispensable product for the body, revealing radiant skin while hiding small imperfections.

In addition to its transparent bottle, practical for makeup artists, its precision tip enables you to apply exactly the right amount of fluid foundation from the first squeeze of the product.”

4. What is your 2 personal favorite MUST HAVE Backstage items, and why?

“I absolutely love the new Face and Body Primer, which is the Dior makeup artists’ secret weapon for creating an instantly flawless complexion: imperfections are blurred, the complexion looks brighter, plumper and more even.

The foundation hold is also improved and extended.

My 2nd favorite must have product is the DIOR BACKSTAGE GLOW FACE PALETTE that was recently launched (Shade – Glitz).
The Glow Face Palette is the Dior makeup artists’ secret for adding instant radiance to any look, from a natural healthy glow to an intense luminosity.

This new harmony of four original shades suits every style and skin tone: a delicately shimmering peach, a bronze with holographic accents, a gold and a pearly white with maxi glitter.”

5. What does your wake-up, make-up look consist of? And your favourite dress-up look?

“I thoroughly enjoy the classic corporate look (pencil skirt, smart-work shirt, jacket and stilettos) and am always fully made up for the office.

But I equally enjoy being super chilled in denim skinnies, comfortable sneakers and a pull-over on weekends (with minimal make-up on)”

6. Your personal preferences and why:

-Cat eye, Winged or Simple eye-liner?

  • “The key thing I learned whilst completing my MBA, is answering any question with “it depends”… The type and heaviness of my eyeliner, will therefore fully depend on the occasion at hand! Simple, for the office and Winged for a special dinner-date.”

-Nude and natural lip, or Bold and bright?

  • “I am a little conservative when it comes to lip colour and have always stuck with the less-risky, nude and neutral shades. ”

-Contour or no countering?

  • “I am fortunate to have high cheekbones and have gotten away with no contouring to date, however do believe it’s an art that should be learned and practiced by anyone trying to highlight certain, “less prominent” facial features. ”

-Natural Glow foundation or full coverage?

“Full coverage for me. I tend to develop a shiny t-zone on my face as the day progresses, hence try to avoid any extra glow within my foundation.”

7. Tell us something interesting we should know about you?

“I believe and buy into universal energy. I base my opinion of people (and whether I will keep them close), based on the energy they exude in my presence.

My life moto is: “If you can be anything, be kind”. I take great care to practice this as much and as often as possible.”

8. What else is coming up this year that we should be excited about?

If I told you, I have to kill you… 😊

“We do have a very exciting pipeline of new, innovative products coming up across the Make-Up franchise, but more so within the Backstage range offering, which we will share with you in due course!”
